This year's Kindergarten classes are taught by Janine Geist and Gala Crouch. The afternoon Kindergarten class is taught by Robyn McBurney.

Curriculum

BIBLE   (ACSI)

God and Me focuses on familiar stories and events in the Bible.  Weekly chapel involves Bibles lessons and Christian music.  Bible verse memorization is included as preparation for various programs throughout the year.

MATHEMATICS (Houghton-Mifflin)

Hands-on manipulative, learning games, and Big Book stories enhance the key concepts of measurement, shapes, adding and subtracting, estimating, graphing, time, money and counting by ones, twos, fives, and tens.

READING  (Beginning to Read, Write & Listen, Macmillian/McGraw Hill)

Strong phonemic awareness is provided with twenty-four letter books.  Additional words and stories are sent home for practice and review.  Included are letter recognition, writing practice, cutting, sound association, word blending, and stories to read.

Auditory Discrimination in Depth Program (Linda Mood Phoneme Sequencing Program)

This phonics program works in conjunction with the Macmillian/McGraw Hill program as a means to teach phonics in another manner.  It correlates highly with reading and spelling success and is an important part of language development.

COMPOSITION/WRITING(Write Reflections)

Students begin to learn about expository writing using a topic sentence and supporting details.  They draw pictures to illustrate, which helps with visualization.

HANDWRITING(Zaner-Bloser)

Correct letter formation and neatness is taught promoting good handwriting. These things are reinforced also in the reading and math programs.

SCIENCE(God’s World, ABeka)

Using God’s Word and hands-on information students learn about several areas of God’s creations, some of which include plants, weather, and our bodies.

ART

Every Friday our students are engaged in a multi-sensory art activity.  They practice cutting, gluing, folding, drawing, listening to instructions, and weaving. Students are also involved in these types of activities throughout the week wile working on class work.

ENRICHMENT

Kindergarten students are involved in weekly chapels, special art projects, special day celebrations, Thanksgiving Program, Open House Program, Grandparents’ Day Program, and Kindergarten Graduation.
